Five World Premieres at Annual Zen-On Concert Series

On December 6, Zen-On hosts its annual chamber music concert series, “Groupe des quatre et ses ami(e)s”, which features the world premieres of five new works by Shin-ichiro Ikebe, Tokuhide Niimi, Akira Nishimura, Hitomi Kaneko and Toshiro Saruya. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the project, which began in 1994 in an effort to propagate and promote the performance and publication of new music. Since its inaugural season, 125 composers and nearly 200 performers have taken part in the series, in which 118 new works have been premiered. The concerts are produced and presented by Zen-On Music Co., Ltd. and are broadcast each year by NHK-FM, Japan’s national public broadcasting organization.

This year’s performance, with the theme of “duo works”, takes place at Tsuda Hall in Tokyo and features Ikebe’s Bivalence X for two mandolins, Miimi’s La Valse F for saxophone and piano, Nishimura’s Rose Valley for flute and guitar, Kaneko’s Elegy for violin and cello, as well as Whisper by Venus, a work for flute and guitar by Toshiro Saruya. All works performed in this series will soon be available in print publication.
