| Composer note | Piano, Piano [Italian: slowly, gently, softly] was composed during my residency at the American Academy in Rome, and was inspired by the palimpsest of Rome. It consists of 2 sets of sheet music of 4 pages each. One set (subtitled “light”) is to be printed on paper, the other (subtitled “shadow”) on transparency. The improvising pianist can choose to overlap them in any number of combinations, and use his/her own discretion to interpret the resulting score freely. |
