| Composer note | Mongolian long songs (urtiin duu) often express a deep yearning for one’s homeland—an intense desire to return, yet an inability to do so. This composition explores the sonic equivalent of a song receding into the distance. The phrasing structure and gestural contours of a melody are preserved, while its distinct pitches gradually blur and dissolve, until the process reverses itself in the final movement, revealing the melody anew—as if one has found a “new home.” – Lei Liang |
