Composer note

A rousing piece from the 'motherland of the guitar'! And a world-famous tune that captures the Mediterranean way of life unlike hardly any other. For his 'Fantasía para un Gentilhombre', Joaquín Rodrigo used material from a set of pieces by the Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz published in the 17th century. Rodrigo dressed these Baroque dances in a new garment of enchanting sounds. The 'gentleman' mentioned in the title refers to both Gaspar Sanz and the great guitarist Andrés Segovia to whom this work has been dedicated.
